Tusker face Posta Rangers knowing anything less than a win will effectively end their title challenge should Gor Mahia beat Kakamega Homeboyz.

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano believes his side is “mentally prepared” to face the challenge of a “very stubborn” Posta Rangers in their must-win league encounter at the Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday afternoon.

The Brewers lost their lead at the top of the table after losing 2-1 to Wazito FC at the Muhoroni Stadium a fortnight ago, leaving them languishing in second place, two points behind league leaders Gor Mahia.

“We have been working on our mental strength,” he said. “We have not taken part in the league for about two weeks,” he added.

“It was hard because we are used to playing every week. Trying to get the players to be match-fit has been hard but we have trained and we feel we are ready for the remaining matches. Everybody is around now.

“Our focus is on Wednesday’s match. It will be difficult but we are very very ready for the game because of the importance of that match and also for the league. We know that Posta Rangers is a very stubborn team but we will play to win.”

Matano has challenged his charges to stick to the plan against Posta after they failed to play the way they had planned against Wazito.

“We did not play the way we planned and we suffered injuries to significant players. However, the players know they have to regain their image and they have to be strong. I have seen the character in the team. They are ready.

“It is about mental strength, concentration and not putting themselves under pressure. It is about doing the simple things right and remaining focused. We are the defending champions. It is not going to be easy but we will try to retain the trophy.”

Tusker must get all three points and pray Gor Mahia fail to get a win against Kakamega Homeboyz to stand a chance of keeping their title challenge alive heading into the last day.

The Brewers also have a chance to win the FKF Cup in July in order to stand a chance of taking part in the CAF Confederation Cup should they fail to win the league, but could also complete the double if results elsewhere go in their favor.
