Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno and goalkeeper Gad Mathews want to bounce back to winning ways against AFC Leopards as Ingwe host K’Oglao in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday.
Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno and goalkeeper Gad Mathews have promised their fans maximum points from their match against bitter rivals AFC Leopards on Sunday.
K’Ogalo and Ingwe clash in the first installment of the Mashemeji derby this season when Leopards play host to Gor Mahia and both teams head into the match on the back of bad form.
Gor Mahia have not won any of their last four league games, which ended in two draws and as many defeats, leading to the sacking of Brazilian coach Leonardo Neiva, while Leopards tactician Tomas Trucha is similarly under pressure after an identical record over the same period.
However, the experienced Gor Mahia stars are confident of maintaining their dominance over their rivals on Sunday to revive their fortunes.
“We expect to turn the tables, we have had a bad run but we are going for a win coming on 24th. The mood is good, the players are quite psyched up, not like before, everything is okay,” said Mathews.
“Everyone is ready to play and players are in high morale to tackle AFC Leopards. To the fans, be calm, we expect you to be there and expect a big show from both sides but we are coming for a win.”
Club captain Otieno shared his sentiments, urging fans to turn up in large numbers for a great show.
“We are ready and our preparations are going on well. We are looking forward to a good game and the mood is okay, we are doing all we can to make sure that we can get positive results,” Otieno weighed in.
“I want to assure all our fans that we are doing everything in training to make sure that we get ready for our next match which is Mashemeji derby and we get positive results.”
Gor Mahia have dominated Leopards in the derby, winning home and away last season, while Ingwe have managed just one win over K’Ogalo in their last 10 meetings.
