From player to owner: Martin Braithwaite’s bold move
Braithwaite's tenure with Espanyol began in the summer of 2022, following the end of his contract with Barcelona.
During his time at the club, the Dane was instrumental in their promotion to La Liga, scoring 22 goals in 33 league appearances.
Despite this contribution, Braithwaite’s exit from Espanyol was spurred by dissatisfaction with his treatment.
After Espanyol gained back promotion to La Liga in May, Braithwaite said:
"Now we have to enjoy it and see what happens in the future. I don't know anything, I'll talk about it in the next few days. A year ago the club offered me a renewal, but it was disrespectful. Let's see if they want me to stay here because the offer I received a year ago shows that they don't trust me."
This discontent seems to be driving his bold decision to invest heavily in the club he recently left.
