The PSG boss would not mind knocking out the team he supported growing up

Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Marseille is one of the most iconic fixtures in French football, and the next installment of this classic in the Coupe de France has a unique twist to it.

Christophe Galtier doesn't mind disappointing his hometown

The twist comes in the form of PSG’s current coach Christophe Galtier who was born in the city of Marseille, grew up supporting the club, came up through its youth ranks, and even represented them in four seasons across two spells.

Understandably, Galtier was asked about his ties to Marseille ahead of the Coupe de France fixture between PSG and L’OM and he emphatically said that he would be disregarding all ties to the city and club to focus on the task at hand, even cutting communication with his family just for the PSG cause.

In the pre-match press conference, Galtier said, “I am completely disregarding the fact I was born in Marseille and played for them. I’ve muted all arrivals on my phone or from family to stay very focused on the match.

“It’s not a last 16 like any other”

Galtier looking to finally win the Coupe de France

Galtier has coached PSG to the top of the Ligue 1 standings and has already won the Trophee de Champions but will also want to add the Coupe de France to his trophy cabinet having lost out on the trophy as both a player and manager.

The three-time Ligue 1 Coach of the Year lost the Coupe De France final with Marseille as a player in the 1986/87 season and lost another final as coach of Nice in the 2021/22 season, so he will not be passing up the chance to finally claim the trophy for city or club affiliations.
