The Migori-based side have been in the eye of a storm following their huge win on Monday but can further strengthen their grip on third place with a win on Saturday
Mara Sugar have an opportunity to pull further from Migori Youth when they host SS Assad in the National Super League in Awendo on Saturday.
Mara are third on the table with 53 points same as Migori Youth, but with one-goal advantage over their rivals, as bot sides chase for a third-place finish which will secure a promotion playoff spot.
The team has been in the eye of a storm following their 7-0 thrashing of Silibwet Lions on Monday which significantly boosted their goal difference and saw them surge ahead of Migori, with the latter accusing them of match-fixing.
However, Mara have distanced themselves from the allegations with former AFC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani, who occasionally works with the side, launching a spirited defence.
"Remember, we were once in position 10, and we gradually started the rise. When we overtook the teams in the 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, and 4th positions, why was everyone quiet?” he posed.

FOOTBALL Ambani shields Mara Sugar from match-fixing claims
After a 7-0 win recently, the Sugar Millers were accused of manipulating the results.
"Let any referee or any single player or official in this nation confess where we as Mara have ever fixed a match. Give to Caesar what belongs to him."
That means there will be increased scrutiny on the team on Saturday as they take on Assad who are 13th on the table.
Mara are unbeaten in their last six games as they have won five and drawn one, and come into the match as favourites, but will not have it easy given Assad are on a four-match winning run.
