Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga wants his former side Gor Mahia to finish the job against AFC Leopards early in Saturday’s crunch clash at Kasarani Stadium

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has rallied his former side Gor Mahia to ensure they slay AFC Leopards in Saturday’s Mashemeji derby.

Leopards host Gor at Kasarani Stadium in what is Kenya’s biggest league match with pressure on coach Tom Juma to record his first win of the season while K’Ogalo are keen to right the wrongs of May when they lost the fixture 2-1.

With the stakes so high, Olunga who played for Gor in 2015, wants K’Ogalo to finish the job early against Juma’s limping Ingwe to earn the three points a well as the derby bragging rights.

“Mashemeji derby inaanza what time? (Mashemeji derby starts at what time?) @OfficialGMFC mapemaaa ndio best (Gor Mahia, better finish the job early),” the Al Duhail striker posted on X.

Gor, who have won two and drawn three of their opening five Football Kenya Federation Premier League matches, know form does not count on derby day hence the need to be at their brilliant best at Kasarani Stadium.

Olunga had an impressive 2015 campaign with Gor Mahia, finishing the season as the club's top scorer in the league with 19 goals to help the side win a record 15th league title without losing a single match.

He was deservedly named the 2015 Kenyan Premier League Player of the Year before he left Kenya for Sweden where he signed for Djurgardens IF.

Gor Mahia had dominated Leopards for seven years before Ingwe ended the hoodoo in May with the 2-1 victory at Nyayo Stadium.

Leopards have not won a match this season after four draws and a loss and Juma can ill afford another negative result on Saturday with fans having already started calling for his sacking in September.
