Raphael Varane has claimed that he and other Manchester United have devised a simple plan to win the
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has claimed that his side are not afraid of facing Manchester City’s Erling Haaland when the teams meet in the FA Cup final.
Haaland the main threat for Manchester City against Manchester United
Haaland has been in incredible form for Manchester City since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, scoring 52 goals in 51 games for the Cityzens in his debut season.
The Norwegian forward also scored three goals and assisted two more in his first Manchester derby this season in Manchester City's eventual 6-3 win.
Despite his incredible form, Varane believes that Manchester United do not need to fear Haaland.
The defender recognised Haaland’s talents but was adamant that defending against Haaland would not be the Red Devils’ priority in the FA Cup final.
Speaking to the Telegraph ahead of the final, Varane said, "Fear? No way ... Why?" Yes, he is a very good player, we all know that. But the danger from City is everywhere, they are very complete."
Varane also suggested the best way to stop Haaland from having a good game, noting that Manchester United should be more worried about cutting off his supply from midfield.
Varane outlines how to defend against Haaland
On defending against Haaland and Manchester City, Varane said, "They can score from set-plays, from a possession games, and from a transition game. As a defender, the connection (Haaland has) especially with De Bruyne - that kind of pass is complicated to defend, so we try to cut that connection.
The ex-France international was positive that the Red Devils could secure victory in the FA Cup final against their rivals, and claimed that the squad is convinced that they can beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
"We know we can beat them,” Varane said, continuing, “We have to be consistent for 90 minutes because we know that everything can change in a few seconds."
"We have to be positive, we're in a good way. But the most important thing is to believe."
The Red Devils will be extra motivated to win against Machester City as they can ensure that the Cityzens fail in their attempt to win a historic treble.
