With only three days to the start of the Premier League, the Red Devils have been hit with another defensive injury blow

The Red Devils’ defensive woes have deepened with the news that left-back Luke Shaw will miss Manchester United’s opening matches of the new Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.

Luke Shaw out of season opener

Manchester United confirmed Shaw’s absence in a statement on Tuesday, adding that he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The club’s statement read: "Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.

“He is working hard on his rehabilitation with a view to being available after the first international break.”

This means Shaw could be sidelined for several crucial early-season fixtures, including matches against Fulham, Brighton, and Liverpool.

Leny Yoro sidelined for three months

News of Shaw’s injury comes at a particularly bad time after Manchester United’s new signing, French centre-back Leny Yoro, has also been ruled out for an extended period.

Leny Yoro was forced off against the Gunners.

The 18-year-old underwent successful surgery on a broken foot injury earlier in August and is expected to be out of action for approximately three months.

Yoro's absence is a significant blow for United, who had been counting on the young defender to bolster their backline following the departure of Raphael Varane this summer.

Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United is reportedly a done deal!

His injury, combined with Shaw’s, leaves United short of options as they prepare to kick off their Premier League campaign at home against Fulham on Friday, although new signings Mathijs de Ligt and Nouassir Mazraoui will go a long way in papering over cracks.
