The Manchester United goalkeeper has been included in the Cameroon squad for their double header against Kenya's Harambee Stars in their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and Brentford’s forward Bryan Mbeumo have been included in Cameroon’s 33-man provisional squad for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Kenya.
The match, scheduled for October 11, will take place at the Japoma Sports Complex in Douala as both teams vie for control of Group J in the ongoing qualifiers, before facing Kenya away tentatively in Uganda on Monday, 14th October.
Cameroon’s head coach, Marc Brys, unveiled his pre-selected list of players during the popular CRTV sports programme Fou Fou Foot, a move that sparked discussion among fans.
This adds to the recent chaotic status of Cameroon status on the same day The FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to impose a six-month ban on Samuel Eto'o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), preventing him from attending matches involving the Cameroon national teams.
Commenting on the unusual manner of the announcement, football enthusiast Armel Ngounou told CamFoot "It's a real curiosity in my opinion. He wasn’t at the stadium for the final. And we call him live so that he can announce his list. It's his choice. But, we would gain from doing things differently. We hope that he will come and justify his choices in the country."
In addition to Onana and Mbeumo, the squad retains several key players from recent months, including the experienced Vincent Aboubakar and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa. However, there are also six new faces among the pre-selected group, with the likes of Inter Milan's Yann Bisseck and Eintracht Frankfurt's Eric Dina Ebimbe receiving their first call-ups.

The former Nairobi City Stars man was reportedly scouted by Brentford and Luton scouts on his Europa League debut for Swedish outfit Elfsborg against Az Alkmar, a game he ended up scoring and assisting.
One notable absence from the list is Jean-Charles Castelletto, who had been injured during the previous training camp but has since returned to action for FC Nantes. His omission, alongside other players dealing with injuries, has opened the door for new talent to step up.
The final squad will be confirmed in the coming days ahead of the commencement of the training camp, where Cameroon will focus on fine-tuning their strategies for the pivotal AFCON qualifier against Kenya.
