Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen could be set for a move to Ruben Amorim's Manchester United
Manchester United are reportedly plotting a bold move to land Galaasaray’s loan star striker Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.
Reports suggest the club is considering using Joshua Zirkzee, who joined in the summer, as a bargaining chip in a player-plus-cash deal to secure the Nigerian forward’s services.
Amorim eyes Osimhen as solution to attacking woes
Newly-appointed manager Ruben Amorim is keen to address Manchester United's lack of firepower in attack, and Osimhen has emerged as a prime target to fill the gap.
Osimhen is thriving at Galatasaray on loan from Napoli with eight goals and four assists in nine appearances across all competitions, and the 24-year-old is seen as the ideal candidate to revive Manchester United’s struggling attack.
Italian journalist Gerardo Fasano revealed that Amorim sees Osimhen as a more viable alternative to Sporting’s Victor Gyokeres, whose price tag could prove prohibitive.
Manchester United consider trading disappointing Zirkzee
Manchester United’s current striking duo, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have managed just three goals combined this season, falling well short of expectations after the club spent over £100 million to bring them to Old Trafford.
Zirkzee, in particular, has struggled to make an impact since his July transfer from Bologna, with only one goal in 17 appearances, and could be offered as part of a deal to entice Napoli to sell Osimhen.
With game time limited, the Zirkzee might be open to a move, especially after the departure of Erik ten Hag, and the Red Devils could leverage his availability to facilitate a deal with Napoli.
While the prospect of landing Osimhen is exciting, much will depend on how negotiations progress in January and whether Napoli, who value their talisman highly, are willing to entertain such a deal.
