Manchester United are exploring goalkeeping changes as pressure mounts on Andre Onana, with a potential exit route reportedly being considered.

Manchester United are believed to have set their sights on Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as a potential fix for their growing goalkeeping crisis.

The Red Devils have been having trouble in recent matches between the posts with Andre Onana under increasing scrutiny following a string of high-profile mistakes.

Onana's backup Altay Bayindir has not been impressive either and now United is reported to be actively exploring options ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.

According to a report by The Sun, Ramsdale has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace or challenge Onana for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

The England international, currently at Southampton after a dramatic switch from Arsenal, has been monitored closely by United scouts in recent weeks.

"Of course (he was at fault). You go back to the decision-making. I'm not even sure what the big benefit (would be). It's too risky," said former United captain Roy Keane as per Daily Mail.

Bayindir, who had been sidelined for most of the season, was given a rare chance to impress against the Magpies but failed to capitalize.

In the match a wayward pass into midfield directly led to Bruno Guimaraes’ goal drawing criticism from football lovers across the globe.

Onana, meanwhile, was dropped for the Newcastle clash after a catastrophic performance in the 2-2 Europa League draw with Lyon.

The Cameroonian was blamed for both goals including Rayan Cherki's dramatic last-minute equaliser. However, despite the poor performance manager Ruben Amorim is expected to recall him for the return leg on Thursday, though his long-term future remains uncertain.

Nemanja Matic poured fuel on the fire ahead of the Lyon fixture, calling Onana “one of the worst keepers in United’s history” after the shot-stopper claimed the Red Devils were “way better” than their French opponents.

The upheaval in United’s goalkeeping department has forced Amorim and his recruitment team to accelerate their search for reinforcements.

Ramsdale, who has endured a difficult season at Southampton, could be available in the summer as the Saints face the drop. It would be the third relegation of his career, a factor that may prompt him to seek a return to the top flight.

The Sun reports that Ramsdale is eager to remain in the Premier League, particularly to stay in the frame for England duty under Thomas Tuchel.
