From not being good enough at Old Trafford to scoring the winner for his country at the 2024 Euros, Wout Weghorst has come full circle
Former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst was the hero for the Netherlands as they secured a 2-1 victory over Poland to open their European Championships account.
Weghorst wins it for the Netherlands
Weghorst came off the bench in the 81st minute and needed only two minutes to make his mark for the Netherlands, scoring the winner against Poland to hand them all three points.
The teams had been tied going into the late stages of the game after Poland took the lead through Adam Buksa only to see the Netherlands hit back through Cody Gakpo.
The three points will give the Netherlands the perfect start in a difficult group that also includes favourites France as well as dark horses Austria.
