The Qatari billionaire's team have quickly dispelled the rumours, branding the reports as 'pure speculation'.
After battling Sir Jim Ratcliffe and others since the start of the year, the Qatari entourage insists that they remain in pole position while the Glazer family chooses a preferred bidder.

Sheikh Jassim's response follows sensational reports from Qatar on Monday saying he had beaten INEOS CEO Ratcliffe and was given the go-ahead by the Glazers.
Despite reports coming out that the Glazers will not cave until their eye-watering price is met, Sheikh Jassim is believed to remain confident in agreeing a deal in the coming days.
