The Manchester United first team coach has expressed his admiration for the Bafana Bafana striker after his stellar show against the Red Devils in April.

Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has revealed his admiration for South African striker Lyles Foster who he says would fit perfectly for the Red Devils.

McCarthy, a South African legend himself, works at United as the attacking coach, helping sharpen the likes of Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, outgoing Anthony Martial, Alejandro Garnacho among others, but would like to see the Burnley forward in the Manchester red.

"When we drew against Burnley, I was rubbing my eyes out because I thought Lyle was that good, he could fit like a glove in our team, in that Man United team. His movement was unbelievable, [Harry] Maguire couldn't deal with Lyle because of his movement,” McCarthy told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

South Africa’s all-time leading scorer was referring to the Premier League game in April when Manchester United drew 1-1 with Vincent Kompany’s side although the Clarets were the dominant side.

Burnley played with two forwards in Foster and David Datro Fofana, on loan from Chelsea, and they were a handful for the United makeshift central defensive pairing of Casemiro and Maguire, with only stunning saves from goalkeeper Andre Onana preventing United from losing the match.

Foster has been at Burnley since joining the club in the January transfer window in 2023, scoring six goals in 41 games, across all competitions.

His movement makes him tricky for defenders to mark and will hope for more improvement back in the Championship under a new coach following the departure of Kompany to Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, McCarthy himself is not sure about his United future given his two-year contract will come to an end next month while his boss Erik ten Hag is also waiting to know if he will be dismissed or allowed to stay at the club next season.
