Manchester United and Manchester City failed to produce a spark in the Manchester derby following a goalless draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United and Manchester City played out a dull goalless draw as the latest edition of Manchester derby failed to sparkle.

Both teams huffed and puffed in the opening half at Old Trafford on Sunday with no real threat at either goal until the second half when the two goalkeepers were tested.

In the 69th minute, Omar Marmoush found himself in some space and fired in a superb first-time shot from long range towards the middle of the goal but Andre Onana was alert and made a good save to deny him.

Two minutes later, Manuel Ugarte volleyed the ball on the edge of the box after a rebound and got Ederson scrambling, but watched it fly just wide of the right post.

Nine minutes from time, Casemiro went down in the box after a challenge from Meto Kovacic and appealed for a penalty but the referee waved play on.

Great teamplay by United then saw them control the ball with a lot of short passes but could not find a breakthrough. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee got on the end of a good pass and from mid-range, unleashed a decent strike, but the shot was blocked by a defender.

Two minutes from time, Bruno Fernandes delivered a fine lofted cross into the penalty area, but it was cleared as the ball went out for a corner.

The draw leaves City in fifth place on the Premier League log on 52 points while United moved back to 13th place with 38 points as both teams continued their poor run of form this season.
