De Gea celebrates United FA Cup final win
Academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored the goals for the Red Devils, silencing Pep Guardiola's side who had dominated possession throughout the match.
It was a significant triumph for United, who were stunned by City in last year's final, and De Gea was quick to celebrate the achievement on social media.
"Manchester is and always will be RED," the Spaniard posted on his Twitter account moments after the final whistle.
De Gea is currently a free agent after leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season, but he clearly still has a strong affinity with the club he has represented with distinction over the past 12 years.
United's win over their cross-town rivals was a fitting way for Ten Hag to potentially sign off his first season in charge, with the Dutchman having overseen a arguably the club’s worst season in the Premier League.
The victory also ensured United will compete in next season's Europa League, a competition they have won before as they look to build on this triumph and mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next term.
For now, the focus will be on celebrating a famous day for the red half of Manchester, with De Gea joining the chorus of United fans reveling in their side's FA Cup triumph.
