After breaking multiple records in the league this season, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season after his goals helped the Cityzens to a third consecutive league title.
Haaland rewarded for superb season
The Norwegian forward broke several Premier League records in his debut season in the league, including scoring a record 36 goals in the campaign.
Haaland’s incredible season has seen him become the top scorer in a single Premier League season since the league was incorporated in 1992.
He also holds the record for the most goals in all competitions by a Premier League player with his 52 goals in all competitions only bettered in English football history by Everton legend Dixie Dean’s 63 goals in the 1927/28 season.
Haaland favourite for more awards
Haaland beat teammate Kevin De Bruyne and six other contenders to the award including Arsenal’s duo of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and Newcastle’s Kierran Trippier.
The record-breaking Norwegian became the third Manchester City player in a row to win the award, succeeding De Bruyne’s 2020/21 win and Ruben Dias’ 2021/22 award.
Haaland’s incredible debut season in the Premier League means he will be a favourite for all the end-of-season league awards, and with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final, he could be the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or if the Cityzens get the better of Inter.
