The Cityzens were on fire, dispatching Brighton away from home with ease to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table
Manchester City put more pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal with an emphatic win away to Brighton. City now sit one point behind the Gunners with a game in hand.
Goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Julian Alarez, and a brace from Phil Foden were enough to earn a convincing win for Manchester City against the Seagulls to close the gap between themselves and Arsenal.
How it happened
While Manchester City dominated the ball in the early exchanges, Brighton remained a threat on the break against a City defence that has been shaky as of late.
The visitors’ domination finally paid inside 20 minutes, however, after Kevin De Bruyne headed home the opener after a superb team move.
It went from good to great for City when a Phil Foden free-kick took a massive deflection before finding its way into the goal to double the City lead.
The clash was all but put to bed before the 35-minute mark when relentless City pressure resulted in a Brighton giveaway on the edge of their box, where Phil Foden was waiting to pounce and put the away side three ahead.
With a sizable lead intact, City slowed the game down to a crawl after the break, sitting on what they had to ensure Brighton could gather no momentum.
They did find their fourth, however, as an industrious Kyle Walker run and challenge on the Brighton keeper allowed Julián Álvarez to tap home from close range.
Manchester City's dominant performance sends a clear warning to Arsenal and the rest of the league. With their relentless attack and solid defence, City are proving to be serious contenders in the title race and have leapfrogged Liverpool into second place, just one point behind the table-topping gunners with a game to spare.
