Manchester City have reportedly marked Inter Milan star as replacement for Aymeric Laporte.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, and they are preparing for the possible exit of Aymeric Laporte.

The 23-year-old Italy international is one of the top-performing defenders in Serie A and has attracted interest from a number of European clubs. While Inter are trying to tie him to a long-term contract with his current deal running out next summer, a number of clubs are attentive to his situation, including the Cityzens.

City lurk around Bastoni

Manchester City have had Bastoni on their radar for a while and could be set to pounce as the centre-back's contract is nearing expiration, according to Teamtalk

The report follows the increasing likelihood of Spanish international Laporte leaving the club this summer, causing the Mancunians to be on the lookout for left-footed centre-backs.

Inter have been on the negotiating table with Bastoni's representatives for a while with an agreement yet to be reached, and it is stated in the report that the Nerazzurri will be open to selling him next summer should his contract situation remain the same to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

However, the player could continue at Inter, as both parties are suggested to be nearing an agreement for a new contract that would place him on a €6 million a year salary.

Meanwhile, another Manchester City defensive target, Josko Gvardiol, has more or less ruled out a summer move, saying the club are not interested in selling him and suggesting he is unwilling to force their hands.

The 23-year-old is one of the most coveted defenders in the world, and after an outstanding World Cup campaign with Croatia, a move was expected for him in the summer, but Gvardiol has played it down.

Gvardiol went on to send a message that would disappoint his many suitors, communicating that Leipzig had no interest in selling him, hence there was no point in holding discussions on his future at the moment.
