A brace from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro and a solo strike from Alejandro Garnacho drowned out goals from Conor Coady and Bilal El Khannous to help interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy clinch a big win at Old Trafford.

Key match actions

Manchester United needed time to get going given the recent change in the dugout, but eventually found their rhythm, breaking the deadlock through Casemiro's stunning curler that nestled into the top corner.

They made it two almost immediately when Alejandro Garnacho connected sweetly with Diogo Dalot's low delivery past the Leicester defence.

The Foxes clawed back a goal courtesy of Bilal El Khannouss's thunderous half-volley, which rattled both posts before crossing the line. However, United promptly restored their two-goal cushion as Bruno Fernandes's deflected free-kick found the net for his first goal of the season.

Casemiro grabbed his brace with a close-range finish after his initial header rebounded off both posts. Leicester refused to yield, and Conor Coady capitalised on Dalot's clearance error to reduce the deficit in first-half stoppage time.

Seemingly unshackled, Fernandes was playing on another level. Read the move perfectly and seized upon Caleb Okoli's under-hit backpass, rounded Danny Ward, and sealed a relatively comfortable quarterfinal berth for the Red Devils.
