The Red Devils confirmed that the midfielder's absence follows a "small complaint" sustained in the previous weekend's 2-0 loss to Tottenham.

Manchester United has been dealt a blow with midfielder Mason Mount set to miss action, while Liverpool is celebrating the successful appeal of Alexis Mac Allister's red card suspension.

Manchester United's summer recruit, Mount, who was transferred from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £55m this June, is on the sidelines due to an injury.

The Red Devils confirmed that the midfielder's absence follows a "small complaint" sustained in the previous weekend's 2-0 loss to Tottenham.

This comes as a challenge for United, especially given the player's high-profile move and expectations.

Manager Erik ten Hag had placed faith in Mount, granting him starting positions in the season's opening games.

However, Mount's time on the field has been challenging, highlighted when he was substituted after 68 minutes during the team's 1-0 victory over Wolves, making way for Christian Eriksen.

In Saturday’s clash at the Tottenham Stadium, he was again replaced, this time by Facundo Pellistri, with just five minutes left to the whistle.

With the midfielder's injury now sidelining him, United faces a tough schedule ahead. They are set to take on Nottingham Forest at home this Saturday and will travel to face Arsenal on September 3.

Mount, also an England international, may be unavailable for England's Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on 9 September.

On the brighter side for the Merseyside, Liverpool is relishing the reversal of a controversial decision from their recent 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.

In a statement that would have surely delighted Liverpool fans and management alike, the Football Association confirmed they had rescinded the red card.

"An independent regulatory commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister's three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal."

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, initially handed a red card after a challenge on Ryan Christie, had faced a three-match ban.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp deemed the decision as "harsh", and the club took matters into their hands by lodging an appeal.
