Manchester United fans have hit out at the legendary midfielder after he aimed a subtle dig at the club’s impressive youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United fans have hit out at club legend Paul Scholes following his criticism of youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Scholes’ bone of contention was the manner in which the two academy graduates were dressed during a training session in the freezing conditions of Manchester.
The two were pictured standing next to each other wearing their jackets with their heads covered and Scholes was not amused, claiming their manner of dressing was not setting the right standards.
“Don’t mind hats and gloves but no way can you train properly with your hood up. Standards begin on the training pitch,” Scholes posted on Instagram.
The post was a dig at the United players especially at a time when the club is going through a poor run of form but some fans feels Scholes went too far with his criticism.
“Scholes man, he's a great midfielder, an absolute legend for this club but the way he [is] complaining even such a small thing like this is beyond me. Great player turning into such a bad pundit,” pointed out a United supporter.
“Lost the plot, Scholesy. Obviously, they're not in the middle of drills in the picture,” commented another one.
“Scholes should take a chill pill. It’s not like he actually watched them train with the hoods on,” replied a Red Devils supporter while another one added: “What’s wrong with that man, it’s literally cold and raining.”
“Don’t mind constructive criticism from United legends but I really think this is making a problem out of nothing.”

Victor Wanyama: CF Montreal fans slam coach for ‘disrespecting’ ex-Harambee Stars captain
CF Montreal supporters have hit out at the team’s coach Laurent Courtois over his treatment of Kenyan international Victor Wanyama.
Some fans were even concerned that Scholes is going hard at two young players who have been the bright spot in a terrible campaign for Erik ten Hag’s team.
“You’d think that Scholes has 10 years managerial experience. He needs to hush,” another fan said.
“He’s going after the kids now? The same kids that actually are playing well?”
“Love Scholes but he should save his advice for #mufc players that are doing jack-all on the pitch. Not two of our most consistently performing youngsters,” observed another fan.
Scholes has never shied away from criticising United players since his retirement, either on social media or as a pundit.
Ten Hag’s side are preparing for a trip to Bournemouth where they will be hoping to secure their first win in four matches after failing to hold onto their leads in their last three games against Bretford, Chelsea and Liverpool.
United appear out of the running for a top four place, sitting 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with seven games remaining.
