Manchester City lifted the Community Shield after defeating fierce rivals Manchester United on penalties at Wembley Stadium.
Manchester City lift Community Shield
Manchester City finally broke their Community Shield curse, defeating Manchester United 7-6 in a thrilling penalty shootout. This win marked City's seventh Community Shield title and their third under Pep Guardiola.
The match was a nail-biter, with City's young guns dominating possession early on. Oscar Bobb was a standout, coming close to scoring with a shot that sailed just over the bar. United's defense was put to the test, but they managed to hold off City's attacks.
As the game wore on, United started to find their footing. Amad Diallo had a great chance to score, but his shot went wide. Marcus Rashford also came close, curling a shot just past the post.
The second half saw United come out strong, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a stunning goal - only to be denied by an offside flag. The match was back and forth, with Rashford hitting the woodwork and Alejandro Garnacho causing trouble for City's defense.
Garnacho eventually broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, but Bernardo Silva equalized with a bullet header in the 89th minute, sending the match to penalties.
In the end, City emerged victorious, with Manuel Akanji scoring the winning penalty after Jonny Evans missed his attempt. This win marks a turning point for City, ending their three-match losing streak in the Community Shield.
