Jack Grealish scored the winner as Manchester City ended their run of four games without a win.

Manchester City continued their run of dispirited performances in the first half of their clash against Luton, but set things right in the second 45, to win their first league game in five matches.

The Cityzens travelled to Kenilworth Road after their shambolic showing at Villa Park last week as they looked to keep pace with league leader Manchester City. Although they started slowly the visitors soon kicked into gear and achieved the odds-on result.

How it happened

Pep Guardiola has to name an eleven without his trusty gunman, Erling Haaland, who is out injured. Julian Alvarez led the line in his stead, and former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic picked up the slot abandoned by the Argentine in midfield.

Manchester City had the bulk of possession early on, as anticipated, but they failed to be threatening with it, while Luton looked dangerous in transition and on set pieces.

The threat Luton posed in dead ball situations materialised just before half-time when British-Nigerian striker Elijah Adebayo rose highest to head in Andros Towsend's delivery.

City came out of the break roaring and their dominance in that half reached a crescendo just after the hour mark when they hit a double in three minutes to both equalise and forge ahead.

Portugal international Bernardo Silva scored the equaliser in the 62nd minute, and Jack Grealish was at the far post to tap in the winner from an Alvarez cross three minutes later.

The win was Manchester City’s first in the league after three draws and a defeat, and it helped them stay in touching distance with league leaders Liverpool.
