Erling Haaland made Premier League history as Manchester City hammered West Ham to return to the top of the table.

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has complained of back pain after he was honoured by his teammates at the Etihad.

He scored the second goal of the day which saw the Norwegian striker take his tally to 35 goals in his debut campaign.

City celebrate Haaland

The goal was a historic one for the 22-year-old as he wrote his name in Premier League history books against the Hammers.

With 35 goals, Haaland has now scored more goals in a single season than anyone in Premier League history.

He surpassed Premier League legends Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer’s 34 goals, with the club and his teammates giving him a guard of honour to celebrate, hurting his back in the process.

“It was something Pep did,” Haaland told the Premier League. “My back hurts a lot now, i got a lot of slaps” he added jokingly. “It was a nice moment.”

“It feels a bit unreal, to be honest,” Haaland told Premier League. “I wasn’t thinking of this kind of record when i came here and to break it means i have done something special.”

Haaland has every reason to be proud of his achievements so far this season, and with four games to go and City still on course for an unprecedented treble, the sky remains the starting point.

“I am really proud of this moment,” he added. “I have to thank my teammates for making it possible and Pep and all the trainers for making the tactics so i can score the goals.”
