Odhiambo substituted star winger and cup winning hero Kevin Amwayi at half time during the draw against Al Hilal on Saturday.
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo insists football is current and should not be judged off history as he defended his reasons to sub off two of his key players, Kevin Amwayi and Moses Shummah, during their 0-0 draw against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi on Saturday.

FOOTBALL ‘Aye aye, captain!’ Ulinzi Stars unveil new skipper ahead of season opener
The 29-year-old has been appointed captain on a full-time basis, having served as skipper in James Saruni's absence for much of last season.
Amwayi was subbed off at halftime, while Moses Shummah was subbed off in the 60th minute as Homeboyz attempted to look for locksmiths that could unlock the heavily locked Al Hilal door during their debut CAF Confederation Cup appearance.
Quizzed by one journalist about the reason he subbed off Amwayi, pretty much their key difference maker as they stormed their way to the FKF Cup win last week, Odhiambo appeared aghast as he appeared to say that no player is untouchable in his side.
“Why did I take off Amwayi? Am I not supposed to take him out? I am asking you,” Odhiambo replied.

CAF CC Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo criticizes indecisiveness in draw against Al Hilal
Homeboyz had several opportunities to get the winning goal but fluffed their lines, something that made head coach Patrick Odhiambo unhappy.
Further pressed that the fans demanded to understand why their star player was subbed off early, he added: “You or the fans? Have they asked you to ask me that? Football is not about history, It is about current form!
“Football is not about yesterday or the day before, it is about right now!
“You do not substitute because they have played badly. It might be a tactical change. When a player is subbed off, it is not that he is playing badly, it is just a tactical change Jamani!”
“Sometimes I fail to understand because I want someone to explain to me, is a good player the one who gets chances but does not score, or the one that does not get chances and does not score? Who is the better one?”
“We need to think about that and then we will get an answer the next time we discuss it!”
Homeboyz will face Al Hilal in a must-win encounter against the Libyan outfit next Saturday to proceed to the first round against Rwanda’s Rayon Sport.
