During a Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-final between his MLS club Inter Miami and LAFC, Suarez was caught up in a biting storm, bringing to the fore memories of previous such incidents that have bedeviled his career.

Chaos ensued towards the end of the game when Marlon Santos made a rash tackle on Suarez’s team-mate Lionel Messi with the two sets of players pushing and shoving after.

Jordi Alba and Suarez were among Inter Miami players involved as they sought to defend their hurting team-mate and as the chaos continued, the former Liverpool and Barcelona striker felt a hand on his upper chest.

Without looking, he sunk his teeth in it, thinking it was a rival player’s hand, only to turn out that it was Alba’s as the left-back was left in pain.

Who has Luis Suarez bit before?

Luis Suarez famoulsy bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup.

Inter Miami won the match 3-2 but the ugly incident shrouded it although the referee did not spot Suarez’s latest biting incident.

The veteran striker is not new to biting controversies as this is his fourth such incident, having first bit PSV's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax Amsterdam in 2010 before he did the same to Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League clash three years later while turning out for Liverpool.

Suarez was banned for seven games following his biting incident in the Netherlands but never learnt as his bite on Ivanovic landed him a 10-game suspension.

At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Suarez bit his way out of the tournament when he sunk his teeth in Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini, who pulled his shirt over the reveal bite marks, and the Uruguay forward was handed a four-month ban from football.

It is not clear if the latest incident will be reviewed for further punishment but Suarez looks not to have learnt from all his previous punishments over the same issue.
