Luis Diaz hopes he can return to give Liverpool a boost
Liverpool winger Luiz Diaz has set a possible date for his return from injury and stated that he is hoping to return for the Reds’ UEFA Champions League match with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in March.
Diaz hooping to return soon
Diaz suffered a knee injury in Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League in September and was expected to return to full fitness in January, but suffered a relapse during Liverpool’s mid-season training camp in Dubai in December, which ruled him out indefinitely.
The Colombian winger has now given an update on his recovery process which he hopes will see him line up for Liverpool at the Bernabeu in the Champions League.
He told Sky Sports, “Let's wait, let's wait a little just to see when I can come back to the pitch. If it's in the Bernabeu it will be great,”
Liverpool have suffered without Diaz
Liverpool will be eager for Diaz to return as they look to rescue what is left of a particularly wretched season.
The Reds find themselves 10th in the Premier League this season, after 20 matches, and have scored only once in their last four league games.
They have also been knocked out of the FA Cup and EFL Cup, and face a daunting UCL Round of 16 match-up against reigning Champions Real Madrid, who beat them last season in the final.
They could use reinforcements, and they will hope that their Columbian winger can return soon to aid efforts to make something of what is left of their season.
Before getting injured, Diaz contributed directly to seven goals in 12 matches for Liverpool and the Reds are hoping that he will have a similar impact when he returns from the injury layoff.
