Liverpool have found themselves in tight fix, having to break their won policy or risk losing Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk for nothing.

Liverpool have secured the future of their core duo, prolific winger Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk.

This, however, comes at a cost of breaking the club’s unofficial policy of refraining from offering contract extensions to players over 30.

According to Mail Online, the reason the contract talks dragged out was because of this particular policy.

However, it has been reported that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) bypassed this policy, faced with the peril of losing two core players in Salah and van Dijk.

The Reds faced a tricky period with the duo and Trent Alexander-Arnold—three key players out of contract.

Alexander-Arnold is already expected to join Real Madrid when his contract expires.

This scenario left the Reds in a precarious position, forcing them to break their own policy to secure the future of two of their Premier League winners.

According to Sky Sports, Salah has signed a two-year deal that will see his stay at Anfield extended to 2027.

The Egyptian star joined the Reds during the 2017/18 campaign and has been a revelation ever since.

In his debut campaign, Salah netted 32 goals—a record at the time for the most goals in a single Premier League campaign over the 38-game format.

The PL winner with Liverpool is eyeing a second title this season, currently leading the PL title race with 73 points, ahead of second-placed Arsenal with 62.

Firing the Reds' charge is the Egyptian, who sits on 44 goal involvements, on course to break the PL record of 47 held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Salah's captain, Virgil van Dijk, is also expected to sign a contract extension of a similar period.

Liverpool's precarious position of losing two valuable pieces of manager Arne Slot's setup has forced the club to wiggle around its policy.
