The talented youngster was on fire as he scored a four-minute brace for his modest club.
Ibrahim Aliyu was a handful for his compatriot and Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem and his Hajduk Split teammates in the Croatian top division.
Aliyu was at his imperious best after scoring a fantastic brace to inspire relegation-threatened NK Lokomotiva to a shock 4-2 win at Split on Sunday.
Both goals were scored in the space of four late minutes to give Lokomotiva a surprise away win over Awaziem and his club in the seven-thriller.
Awaziem struggles against Aliyu
It was indeed an evening to forget for Super Eagles centre back, Awaziem and his club side Hajduk.
While the 26-year-old Nigeria International completed the most passes (54) in the game, the defender and his partners at the back failed at their primary duty as Aliyu ran them ragged late on.
Lokomotiva started on a blistering note, taking what looked like a commanding 2-0 less courtesy of goals from Vladan Bubanja and Luka Stojkovic in the opening half-hour.
But Hajduk fought back to level the score at 2-2 after 66 minutes thanks to Jan Mlakar and Marko Livaja, who scored the equaliser from the penalty.
With seven minutes left on the clock, however, Aliyu completely turned things around in favour of his Lokomotiva side with a remarkable four-minute double to restore their two-goal lead.
Awaziem and Split continued to fight back and pulled another goal back with just a minute to go. But this time, it was too late as their visitors held on to the famous win.
What the result means
With his performance on the day, Aliyu took his tally for the season to four (4) goals in 20 matches for Lokomotiva.
Awaziem, who also played from start to finish, has scored four (4) goals this season for Hajduk in 18 appearances.
Meanwhile, in terms of what that result meant for both sides, Hajduk remain second on the table despite the defeat with 44 points while Lokomotiva boosted their survival hopes with the win which takes them eight (8) points away from danger.
