Ex-Barcelona captain Lionel Messi sends a farewell message to one of his successors at the club.

Lionel Messi has reacted to the departure of former Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto from the club. Roberto, 32, left the club this summer following the expiration of his contract and has been greeted by congratulations and well wishes from his colleagues and former teammates.

Roberto leaves Barcelona

As Pulse Sports reported, Roberto's contract expired a few months ago. It was previously reported that he would continue at the club next season, with ex-Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez having requested his inscription.

However, following the exit of the former World Cup winner and the arrival of Hansi Flick, Roberto’s services were deemed surplus to requirement. The club announced his exit yesterday and have put out several social media posts to commemorate his career at the club.

Roberto spent 14 years as a senior player at Barcelona, 2010–2024, but has been at the club since 2006.

With Barcelona, he won seven league titles: six Copa del Rey, three Supercopa de Espana, two UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup title.
