Argentina legend Lionel Messi will see his contract at MLS club Inter Miami expire at the end of this season but he has already decided what is next.

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is coming to the end of his contract at Inter Miami this year but he has already decided what he wants when that deal is up.

Messi joined Inter Miami, which is co-owned by England legend David Beckham, in the summer of 2023 and has since been joined by his former Barcelona team-mates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez while Javier Mascherano, his ex-Baraca and Argentina team-mate, is the coach.

The forward has managed 42 goals and 21 assists in 48 appearances for the Florida-based club and led them to their first ever trophy, the 2023 Leagues Cup just after a few months following his arrival.

Messi has reportedly decided to extend his stay in Miami by a further year when his current two-and-a-half-year contract expires after the club convinced him to sign fresh terms as they look to have him around when they move to a new stadium as per the Dailymail.

The 37-year-old is seen as an important part of the project and will be needed to lead the team in their new $1 billion 25,000-seater stadium, the Miami Freedom Park, that will open in 2026.

Inter Miami currently play at the 19,100-seater Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale but will have a home of their own from next season.

Messi has already scored three goals and provided two assists in four matches for Inter Miami this season as they look to fight for the title after crashing out in the playoffs last season.

Inter Miami have started the season with four wins and two draws to stay second on the Eastern Conference table with 14 points, one behind leaders Columbus Crews, who have played a game more.
