Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic is a man under pressure after failing to get all the three points against Bidco United, thus failing to take advantage of Kenya Police's slip against Mathare United.

Gor Mahia were fortunate enough to avoid embarrassment against Bidco United, as both sides were forced to share the spoils, drawing 0-0 in a league clash that took place at the Machakos Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The draw means Gor Mahia missed out on a glorious opportunity to close the gap on Kenya Police, after the Law Enforcers were also downed 1-0 by Mathare United at the Dandora Stadium in another clash that was taking place at the very same time.

Heading into the match, K’Ogalo were determined to secure maximum points to gain ground on first-placed Kenya Police and second-placed Tusker FC as the title race intensifies. However, their struggles in the final third meant they failed to capitalize on their rivals' slip-up.

The clash also marked Gor Mahia’s final league encounter before the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Gor Mahia began the match with intent, launching early attacks in search of a breakthrough. Strikers Charles Bbale and Samuel Kapen spearheaded the offensive efforts, but Bidco’s resolute defense held firm.

As the game progressed, both teams struggled to impose themselves, with most of the action confined to the midfield. Bidco’s Idris Amadi attempted to create danger from the flanks, while Kapen squandered a half-chance late in the first half, leading to a goalless stalemate at the break.

Gor Mahia intensified their offensive play in the second half, but Bbale failed to convert the few opportunities that came his way. The defending champions were given a major scare in the 73rd minute when Bidco’s Victor Eshitushe delivered a pinpoint cross that found Amadi, but goalkeeper Kevin Omondi pulled off a crucial save to keep the scores level.

In a bid to break the deadlock, Gor Mahia introduced Gedeon Bandeka and Boniface Omondi for an added attacking edge. However, Bidco’s defensive line, marshaled by Brian Okeyo, stood strong to ensure the points were shared.

The draw leaves Gor Mahia third on the log with 36 points, five behind Kenya Police, who suffered a costly defeat against Mathare United earlier in the day. K’Ogalo, however, still have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Bidco United's struggles continue as their winless streak extended to 10 matches. They remain stuck in 17th place with 19 points, battling for survival.

Mathare United 1-0 Kenya Police

In the other significant fixture of the day, league leaders Kenya Police failed to extend their advantage at the top after suffering a 1-0 loss to Mathare United at the Dandora Stadium.

Paul Kinyanjui emerged as the hero for the Slum Boys, netting the decisive goal in the 90th minute to stun the Law Enforcers.

Mathare started brightly, nearly taking the lead in the second minute when Donald Ange saw his effort crash against the post with goalkeeper Job Ochieng well beaten. Six minutes later, Ochieng was forced into another save to deny Ian Omondi’s header.

Despite Mathare’s dominance, Kenya Police eventually grew into the contest, with Mohamed Bajer and David Simiyu spearheading their attacking forays. The best chance of the first half fell to Simiyu in the 35th minute, but Mathare’s keeper Michael Wanyika produced a brilliant double save to keep the scores level.

In the second half, both teams made tactical changes, with Kenya Police introducing winger David Okoth in search of a goal. Ochieng was again called into action in the 82nd minute with a crucial stop, but in the dying minutes of the game, Mathare pounced on a defensive lapse. Kinyanjui capitalized on a misplaced pass in midfield to slot home the winner, handing Police a bitter defeat.

The result boosts Mathare’s survival hopes while simultaneously denting Kenya Police’s aspirations of lifting the league title.
