Senegal's Nicolas Jackson is confident that he can emulate Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and become a club icon, despite a challenging start to his career at Stamford Bridge.

After a debut season characterised by criticism due to his profligacy in front of goal, Jackson managed to score 17 goals in all competitions.

However, his performances did not fully convince some fans and Chelsea legends, including John Obi Mikel, who expressed concerns about his ability to lead the Blues.

Following a summer filled with speculation linking Chelsea to other strikers like Victor Osimhen, Jackson has found renewed form under new manager Enzo Maresca.

In the 2024/25 season, Jackson has already made an impact, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in just 13 matches.

His impressive performance has helped Chelsea break their goal-to-game ratio record, showing a significant improvement from his previous season's contributions.

Citing Drogba as an example and inspiration, Jackson is aiming higher; “I looked at former Chelsea strikers, Drogba scored 10 [Premier League goals] in his first season and 12 in the second season,” he stated per a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“He wanted to leave after his first season, but he stayed and became a legend. I think I can do the same and succeed.”

Jackson's growing confidence is evident as he continues to build on his strong start this season. He has formed effective partnerships with teammates like Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho, contributing significantly to Chelsea's attacking play.
