Laporta has revealed that Barcelona are set to offer Xavi Hernandez a contract renewal.
Laporta has confirmed that Xavi Hernandez will be offered a contract renewal as he is happy with the work he has done translating the values of Barcelona on the pitch.
The 43-year-old manager returned to the club on November 6, after an illustrious playing career, replacing Ronald Koeman, who was fired.
Laporta on Xavi's renewal
Laporta was speaking at the Círculo Ecuestre colloquium, a Catalan event, where he provided updates on current happenings with Barcelona.
He confirmed that Xavi's renewal was already in the plans as he represents the Barcelona way with the way he sets his team up to play.
"I have already considered renewing Xavi," he said, per Relevo.
"We have to renew Xavi Hernandez because he defends the genuine style of Barcelona."
Xavi's Barcelona are currently nine points ahead at the top of LaLiga and defeated Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana final.
Although results in Europe have not been favourable, Barcelona are on course to pick up their first league title since the 2018/19 season, when Ernesto Valverde was in charge of the Blaugrana. They have since had three managers, with Xavi being the third, succeeding Quique Setien and Ronald Koeman.
Barcelona's priorities
With Barcelona out of the Europa League after a recent defeat to Manchester United, La Liga is the main focus for Xavi's men this season, and president Laporta admitted as much.
Laporta revealed that they want to keep their nine-point lead, which is the minimum possible if they beat Athletic Club before they face Real Madrid.
" he priority was and is to win LaLiga. We want to keep the 9 points until the Clasico."
He went ahead to confirm that the priority for this season had always been to win the LaLiga after three seasons of watching two of their rivals alternate the crown.
