The England international was substituted against Aston Villa with a muscle issue shortly before the international break.

Manchester United find themselves in more trouble after midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out for a few weeks with a muscle injury.

The 19-year-old England international suffered the problem during United's 0-0 Premier League draw at Aston Villa and subsequently withdrew from the Three Lions squad for their two Nations League games last week as reported by the BBC.

Mainoo joins Harry Maguire on the treatment table after the former United captain also suffered a knee injury, coincidentally against Villa with the same timescale allocated for the burley Three Lions defender.

Mainoo was omitted from the 3-3 draw against FC Porto in the midweek Europa League clash prior to the Villa game. The academy graduate was a handful last season, capping off his impressive run by scoring in the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City at a sold-out Wembley.

Any extended period on the sidelines will be a major blow for United who are short of options in central midfield. New signing Manuel Ugarte is yet to make a mark following his big money move from PSG, while Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has often found himself on the bench after his horror show against Liverpool early September.

Mainoo's absence adds to the mounting injury crisis that under-fire coach Erik Ten Hag has to contend with as Luke Shaw and Mason Mount remain sidelined. Mainoo has been one of the top performers in a United jersey so far in an otherwise underwhelming season for the Old rafford side.
