Mighty Eagles Soccer Academy is seeking government support for 2024 IberCup in Portugal after impressing at Gothia Cup.

Mighty Eagles Soccer Academy (MESA) has sent a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Sports for financial support ahead of their participation in the prestigious 2024 IberCup in Lisbon, Portugal.

The tournament, set to take place from July 2nd to 7th, has become a goal for MESA following their impressive performance at the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, last year.

Moses Zewedi, the visionary behind MESA, has been pivotal in preparing the academy's talented boys and girls for this international opportunity.

"So far, the preparations have been going well, as we have participated in various local tournaments, including Senator Allan Chesang's Cup tournament and Governor George Natembeya's Cup, where we became the Hospital Ward Champions in both boys' and girls' categories," Zewedi shared.

However, the journey to Lisbon poses a significant challenge for the academy, primarily financial.

The IberCup organizers have pledged to cover accommodation and local transportation in Portugal, recognizing MESA's potential during the Gothia Cup.

"For the Iber Cup, the organizers have assured us of full accommodation and local transportation while in Portugal. Those in charge of the tournament were present during the Gothia Cup in Sweden and watched several of our matches and were impressed by our team," Zewedi added, highlighting the support from the tournament organizers.

Yet, the costs for visas, insurance, and air tickets remain a substantial hurdle.

"We are only working towards securing funds for visas, insurance, and air tickets. Our appeal goes to our leaders, especially to the CS of Sports, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, to support us and have us be part of the Talanta Hela initiative," Zewedi earnestly requested.

Founded in 2019, MESA has dedicated itself to nurturing football talent among children and teenagers aged eight to 20.

The academy draws many of its players from challenging backgrounds in areas like Shimo la Tewa, Crossroads, Gatua, Namgoi, Cherangani of Kaplamai, Aruba, Matisi, and other parts of Trans Nzoia County.
