The government has demanded accountability as delayed construction works at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium take toll.

National Assembly Committee chairman On Sports Dan Wanyama is disappointed by the delayed construction works at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Uasin Gishu County.

The legislator who was on an inspection tour of the facility on Friday cried foul of the fire state of the Stadium.

He called on the concerned people to act immediately before action is taken according to Citizen Digital.

"The timelines that are given must be made and if that doesn't happen, heads must roll because we cannot continue doing things this way,” Wanyama said.

He said the ministry has promised to do a down payment to the contractor after raising complaints of lack of funds, noting that his Committee was on check.

The Ministry of Sports has committed to inject Ksh300 million so that work can resume after stalling for 17 months.

“There have been delays on release of funds due to the pressure of CHAN preparations where the government has prioritised Nyayo and Kasarani stadia,” noted Wanyama.

Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums have undergone major facelift as the government readies the facilities for CHAN in August and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, in major infrastructural development in the country.

Nyayo was opened last month and has been used by the Junior Starlets, Harambee Stars as well as the venue hosting Kenya's biggest two club rivals AFC Leopards playing against Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji derby.

The works at Kip Keino started in 2017 but has dragged on with construction often halted for prolonged periods.
