FOOTBALL: Kimanzi - "I have not applied for the KCB job"

Zico's three-year contract at KCB is running out leaving speculations.

Decorated former Harambee Stars tactician Francis Kimanzi has distanced himself from the coaching job at success starved KCB FC.

Hailed as the most learned football coach, Kimanzi is always in the radars of any local, ambitious club looking for progress.

It is his high standing in football that has sparked widespread reports linking the Dutch trained tactician with the KCB job but Kimanzi has cleared the air on the whole issue.

"I have not applied for any job at KCB and no one from the bank has contacted me from the bank over any job. It makes me wonder where these reports are coming from," Kimanzi opened up to Twiga

The rumours about change of guard at KCB started after it emerged that current coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno's contract was coming to an end. Having been at the helm for three years and failing to clinch any trophy further fueled speculation that Zico's time is up.

Kimanzi however, dismissed the speculation and distanced himself from the KCB job.

"The fact that someone's contract is expiring doesn't mean that he is being let go. Perhaps they are negotiating a contract renewal. It is not wise at all to assume that there cannot be a renewal," added the 2009 title winner with Mathare United

KCB finished 5th on the recently concluded FKF Premier League and six points shy of winners Gor Mahia. Tusker, Nzoia Sugar and Police FC all finished ahead of the bankers leaving serious question marks on Zico’s suitability.

"There is no vacancy at KCB. I'm sure they will advertise should there be need. KCB is a big and very organized bank and they know how to work professionally," Kimanzi added
