After 622 days without kicking the ball in a competitive game, Michael Kibwage finally made his long-awaited comeback in Tusker’s 7-0 shellacking of Berlin FC and has set his sights on winning the league.
The center-back last played for Sofapaka back on June 20, 2021, when Batoto ba Mungu lost 1-0 to Gor Mahia, just seven months after joining the 2009 champions from KCB as a free agent.
Kibwage had a row with Sofapaka which led to him being dropped from the first team over a payment row with his exit from the club blocked as Batoto ba Mungu demanded he refunds his sign-on fee.
The former AFC Leopards defender is now looking to lift his maiden title with Tusker after making his debut in the FKF Cup over the weekend.
“I hope things will be good, I hope we win all our coming matches in order to achieve the team's objective of winning the league. Should we win the league, it will really be a huge boost to me because I've never won the league which has been my aim.
The competition in the team is high, and what has really impressed me is that everyone motivates whoever plays like I played the other day and whoever was on the bench really motivated me and I welcome such competition,” said Kibwage.
The Kenyan international joined the Brewers in the mid-season transfer window on the Bosman rule and is looking to fill the shoes vacated by Isaac Kipyegon who was suspended for match-fixing.
Kibwage admitted that he was delighted to earn his debut for Tusker and make a comeback to the field as he was impressed with his and the team’s performance.
"It's a very good feeling, it was a feeling I had long waited for because I really love playing football, and going back to whatever you do is always a nice feeling.
I'm thankful because it was a good debut. We had a clean sheet and the team also performed well and won, that's the most important thing,” added Kibwage.
