Kenya have put themselves in a good position to advance to the semifinal of the COSAFA Cup following a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.
Austin Odhiambo starred for Kenya as Emerging Stars put themselves in contention for a place in the semi-final of the COSAFA Cup in South Africa on Tuesday.
Odhiambo was the star of the show as he ran rings around Zimbabwe with Kenya securing a 2-0 victory to move to second on Group B on the standings.
The Gor Mahia midfielder broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a sublime finish. From an acute angle, Odhiambo shrugged off his markers to slot into the bottom right corner on the half-turn.
Kenya then boosted their chances of making the semi-final with a second goal, also coming from a Gor Mahia player.
A ball lofted from the defence was met by Benson Omala who poked it home first time for his first goal of the tournament.
The opening half had been subdued with Kenya getting just one opportunity which they failed to capitalise from when Rooney Onyango could not score after defensive mix-up in the Zimbabwe box.
Ken Odhimabo’s men closed the centre and forced their opponents to use the flanks and they were nearly punished before Amos Wanjala made a great tackle.
After the break, Odhiambo imposed himself on the game and was rewarded with the goal but Kenya almost conceded from a dangerous cross.
Emerging Stars will now wait to know if they are the best second placed team to advance to the semi-final after Comoros secured top spot in Group B following a 1-0 victory against Zambia.
