Kenyan Striker Jonah Ayunga Extends Contract with St Mirren in Scottish Premier League

Jonah Ayunga extends St Mirren contract after impressive performances, including a key goal in win securing top-six league finish.

Harambee Stars forward Jonah Ayunga has extended his contract with Scottish Premier League side St Mirren until summer 2026.

Ayunga's contract was set to o expire at the end of the current and following successful negotiations the contract has been extended for season 2025/26.

The 27-year-old joined St Mirren in summer of 2022 as one of one of Stephen Robinson’s earliest signings as Saints manager, joining from Morecambe.

Ayunga has since gone on to make 71 appearances for the Buddies, scoring 11 goals - the most recent of which came in Saturday's 3-2 win over Ross County that secured a third consecutive top-six finish for St Mirren.

The striker scored the second goal in Saturday's win over Ross County in a win that secured another top-six finish for the club.

"I’m really settled.My family is up here, it’s a good group of boys and I know the grass isn’t always greener," Ayunga told the club website after signing the deal.

"I’m happy to be here and that’s three top six finishes on the bounce. I know we can do better and we’ll be looking to kick on again next season.”

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson praised Ayunga for his exploits that made the club make a decision to retain hm for another season.

"We’re really pleased to get Jonah signed up for another year.He's had to be patient this season, but when he has come in he has contributed well and played a big part in the team over the last few months," he said.

"He’s had to battle back from a tough cruciate knee injury and we’re starting to see all the attributes that we know he has. We’re delighted he’ll be part of the group again next season."

The Kenya star came through at Dorchester City before he was signed by Brighton.

He also had several loan moves to Burgess Hill Town, Sligo Rovers, Galway United, Poole Town, and Havant and Waterlooville FC before he went back to the senior ranks with Bristol Rovers in 2020.

Ayunga received his first call up to the Kenya national team, Harambee Stars, on August 5, 2016.
