Silko Thomas has secured a loan move from Leicester City to Wigan Athletic enhancing his career in the English leagues.

Harambee Stars prospect Silko Thomas has made a loan move from Premier League side Leicester City bringing his electrifying pace to the forefront of Wigan Athletic.

The one-year loan agreement is contingent on the approvals of the Premier League, EFL, and FA.

At just 20 years old, Thomas has showcased exceptional talent and speed on the field, traits that Wigan Athletic hopes to capitalize on during the 2024/25 campaign.

His decision to move was heavily influenced by the keen interest shown by Wigan's First Team Manager, Shaun Maloney, and Sporting Director, Gregor Rioch, who have been monitoring the young player's development for over eighteen months.

"It's a very proud moment for me and my family. I can't wait to get started and meet the fans," Thomas told the club website.

"It was easy for me to come here knowing the Manager has wanted me for over 18 months. I want to do my best and show everyone what I am capable of."

Thomas began his football journey at Carshalton Athletic where he played for two seasons before catching the eye of scouts from Chelsea.

His potential flourished at Cobham, Chelsea’s training ground, where he played for both the U18s and U21s.

In addition to his club commitments, Thomas has represented England at both the U18 and U15 levels, demonstrating his versatility and skill across various age groups.

His transfer to Leicester City last season marked a significant milestone. Thomas quickly made a name for himself with the Foxes, earning the Men’s Development Player of the Season award last May.

Throughout the season, he made 16 appearances for Leicester’s senior Academy side, scoring five goals and earning a nomination for the March Premier League 2 Player of the Month.

Moreover, his contributions were not limited to domestic competitions.

Thomas also played a pivotal role in Leicester City U21s’ campaign in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Group Stage, notably scoring the winning goal against Tranmere Rovers and facing Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium.
