Simba SC retains Kenyan physio and team manager amidst coaching staff overhaul following a significant loss in the Tanzanian derby.

Former Gor Mahia coach Roberto Oliviera Gonçalves do Carmo's tenure at Tanzania Premier League giants Simba Sports Club has ended abruptly.

In a move that has sent ripples across East African football, the Msimbazi Reds  have terminated the contract of their Brazilian head coach following a heavy defeat to arch-rivals Yanga.

Despite the coaching upheaval, the positions of Kenyan physiotherapist Wycliffe Omon and Team Manager Michael Igendia remain a constant, securing a semblance of continuity in a period of change.

Oliviera, commonly known as Robetinho, took the helm after the departure of Zoran Manojlović in September 2022.

Juma Mgunda temporarily filled the gap before Robetinho's appointment. However, the humiliating 5-1 loss in the fiercely contested Tanzania derby proved fatal for the Brazilian's stint with the club.

"Simba Sports Club has reached an agreement on both sides to terminate the contract with the head coach of the first team, Roberto Oliveira Goncalves Do Carmo,” a club statement detailed.

The club has also parted ways with midfielders coach Corneille Hategekimana.

Simba SC's leadership expressed gratitude towards the departing coaches for their contributions and extended best wishes for their future endeavors.

As the club navigates through this transitional phase, Daniel Cadena steps in as the interim head coach, with Seleman Matola providing assistance.

The search for a permanent coaching team is reportedly underway and nearing completion.

Robetinho's journey before joining Simba SC was marked by success. He led Vipers SC to the Uganda Premier League title and the finals of the Uganda Cup.

Under his guidance, Vipers SC also reached the CAF Champions League, making them the second Ugandan club to participate in the competition.

His impressive record includes 43 wins in 57 games, with only six losses and nine draws.

Despite his achievements, Robetinho's stint with Gor Mahia was brief. His qualifications came under scrutiny by CAF, leading to an early exit from the Kenyan club.

While the coaching staff has seen significant changes, Kenyan officials Wycliffe Omon and Michael Igendia remain steadfast in their roles.

Their roles might often be overshadowed by the high-profile nature of coaching positions, but they are the linchpins in the day-to-day operations of any football club.
