The Kenya Ministry of Sports has provided encouraging updates on the progress of major stadia developments across the country, as the nation prepares for a packed football calendar.

Renovation works are currently ongoing at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, while the 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium, intended to be the centerpiece for AFCON 2027, is still under construction.

Nyayo and Kasarani will serve as venues for CHAN 2024 matches and are expected to play supporting roles during the AFCON tournament.

Additional facilities like the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Kipchoge Keino Stadium, Kirigiti Stadium, and Police Sacco Stadium are being prepared as training grounds and auxiliary venues.

Following an inspection tour of the various construction sites, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya expressed confidence in the timely completion of the projects.

“Kenya is firmly on track to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) this August,” stated Mvurya in an update shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“We are also expediting construction works at Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Kipchoge Keino Stadium, Kirigiti Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadium to ensure full readiness for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.”

The CS highlighted the near-completion of works at Kasarani Stadium, noting that the canopy installation is complete, seating has been fitted, and key renovations to the VIP area and pitch have been finalized.

“Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is taking impressive shape. We remain committed to fast-tracking the remaining final touches,” he assured.

The Ministry hopes the upgraded facilities will be ready for match testing ahead of the CHAN kickoff in August.

Nyayo Stadium has already hosted competitive fixtures, including Kenya’s 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Gabon in March, a game that showcased a vibrant atmosphere and strong home support.

That passionate home crowd will be crucial as Kenya aims to impress on the continental stage, both as a host and a competitor.
