Kenya's Harambee Stars dropped in the latest FIFA rankings following defeats in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while Morocco remains the top-ranked African nation.

Kenya's Harambee Stars have fallen four places on the latest FIFA Coca Cola world rankings released on Thursday, for the month of October.

Stars dropped from position 102 to 106 after losing to Cameroon 4-1 and 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Yaounde and Kampala.

Regionally, Uganda is the highly ranked East African nation at position 87th in the world, followed by Kenya and Sudan at 110th in the world.

Morocco, who were semi-finalists in the 2022 World Cup, are the highest-ranked African nation in position 13 after moving up one spot up.

Former African champions Senegal, who were previously ranked higher, dropped to 20th place while Egypt move to position 30th and third in Africa.

Ivory Coast, the current African champions, dropped seven places to position 40th globally and sixth in Africa.

The status quo remains for the top three teams with Argentina, France and Spain occupying the first three positions. They are followed by England in fourth and Brazil in fifth place.

However, there have been more significant changes further down the table. Among the African teams making notable progress in the rankings are Equatorial Guinea, now 88th (up 6 places), Zimbabwe at 117th (up 7 places), The Gambia in 128th (up 7 places), and Botswana, ranked 140th (up 7 places).

Botswana achieved the largest overall jump in points gained, increasing by 38.30 points.

Additionally, two other CAF teams have made the biggest climb in terms of places, each moving up 10 spots in this edition of the ranking: Comoros, now 108th, who triumphed over Tunisia in recent home-and-away matches during the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.

The FIFA world ranking is determined using the Elo Model which is a method that adds or subtracts points for matches to or from a team's existing point total.

The points added or subtracted are partially determined by the relative team strength, match importance, match result, and expected match result.
