Kennedy Owino scored the only goal for AFC Leopards as they returned to winning ways against Kenya Police on Sunday afternoon.
AFC Leopards secured a much-needed victory on Sunday afternoon, narrowly defeating Kenya Police FC 1-0 in a tightly contested FKF Premier League match at Dandora Stadium.
Kennedy Owino emerged as the hero, delivering the decisive goal in the second half to end Leopards' winless streak.
The first half was marked by missed opportunities and off-pitch drama. Leopards started strongly, with Boniface Munyendo forcing a save in the third minute. However, the game was briefly halted in the 11th minute due to crowd trouble as law enforcement deployed tear gas to disperse fans attempting to gain unauthorized entry.
When play resumed, both teams created chances but failed to convert. Mousa Oundo's long-range effort in the 33rd minute narrowly missed the target, while Ovella Ochieng’s free-kick and Victor Omune's header for Leopards lacked precision.
The second half saw tactical changes from both sides, with AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani introducing Kelly Madada and Cliff Miheso in the 65th minute. The substitutions almost paid off immediately, as Madada’s through pass created a promising chance, though it was slightly overhit.
Leopards’ persistence finally bore fruit in the 76th minute. Madada earned a free-kick just outside the box, which Ovella Ochieng expertly struck towards goal. Police FC goalkeeper Job Ochieng managed an acrobatic save, but the rebound fell kindly to Kennedy Owino, who slotted home with ease, sending the home crowd into raptures.
Leopards had a chance to double their lead in the 85th minute when Sydney Lokale broke free after a precise through ball. However, with only defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng to beat, Lokale’s effort went disappointingly wide.
AFC Leopards held on for the narrow win, showcasing resilience and tactical discipline. The victory provides a vital morale boost for the team as they aim to climb the league standings.
Final Score: AFC Leopards 1–0 Kenya Police FCScorer: Kennedy Owino (76').
