However, he expressed confidence in his ability to regain fitness quickly, "I haven't played much this summer, but I've been working hard with a personal trainer to maintain my fitness.

"While I'm not at 100% yet, I'm not far off. I'm hoping to join the team training sessions soon and build the rest of my fitness alongside my teammates," Iheanacho said in an interview on Sevilla's official website.

The Nigerian forward is optimistic about his chances of featuring in Sevilla's opening La Liga match. "Hopefully, I'll be ready to play the first game," he declared.

Sevilla will kick off their La Liga campaign against Las Palmas.

Iheanacho set for new chapter with Sevilla

Iheanacho, who progressed through Manchester City's youth system, joined Leicester in 2017 for more first-team opportunities.

Over five seasons with the Foxes, he scored 30 Premier League goals before signing a contract with Sevilla until 2026, with an option for an additional year.

As Sevilla prepares for two friendly matches in England next week, Iheanacho has a chance to regain his sharpness and bond with his new teammates.

Fans and management are optimistic that the Nigerian striker will fill the gap left by Rafa Mir and Youssef En-Nesyri, who moved to Valencia and Fenerbahce this summer.
