The Kenya Football Fans Federation have released a statement following President William Ruto's decision to fire his entire cabinet, including Sports CS Ababu Namwamba.

The Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA) has issued a statement in response to the recent dismissal of Ababu Namwamba as Sports Cabinet Secretary.

Namwamba was one of 21 cabinet secretaries dismissed by President William Ruto amid pressure from dissatisfied Kenyans.

In June, KEFOFA experienced a significant setback when a government official reneged on a promise to facilitate transportation for its members to Malawi.

The fans had planned to cheer on the Harambee Stars as they faced Burundi and Ivory Coast in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Initially, former Public Service CS Moses Kuria had pledged to finance a bus for the 32-hour journey to Lilongwe. However, he later offered unsatisfactory National Youth Service buses instead.

Efforts to secure support from Namwamba's ministry also proved unsuccessful, leaving the federation without any assistance.

Following Namwamba's dismissal, KEFOFA President Francis Liboyi expressed the federation's appreciation for President Ruto's decision to remove what they deemed incompetent cabinet secretaries.

“On behalf of Kenyan sports fans, we take this opportunity to thank HE President William Samoei Ruto for the bold step of firing incompetent Cabinet Secretaries,” the statement read.

“As a fans sports body, we are looking forward to a much more competent CS for Sports who will bring the much-needed change devoid of politics.

“Just like any other discipline, sports should be treated as a career and revenue-generating industry, and more attention should be given to the ministry.”

Liboyi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the incoming CS and legally registered sports federations to ensure the betterment of the sport.

He also called for increased fan registration with KEFOFA to enhance their organizational capacity and improve future planning.

Meanwhile, Liboyi called for increased fan registration with the federation to bolster their organisational capacity and improve future planning, especially considering fans could have a chance to travel to The Dominican Republic to support the side.
