Bright Stars did not consider Kato as a potential target, but after missing out on Hassan Muhamood who joined Tanzania’s Geita Gold and the complexity of his move to URA, the club has acted swiftly.

Former KCCA FC defender Samuel Kato Nemeyimana is close to finalizing a short-term move to Soltilo Bright Stars, Pulse Sports understands.

Neither Bright Stars nor the player’s representatives were able to confirm the pending move, but sources within the club specifically mentioned that the two parties were pulling efforts to have an agreement on a one-year deal soon.

Bright Stars did not consider Kato as a potential target, but after missing out on Hassan Muhamood who joined Tanzania’s Geita Gold and the complexity of his move to URA, the club has acted swiftly.

Kato is considered to be the kind of profile that will work perfectly with Warren Bbuule, as head coach Joseph Mutyaba seeks to improve the quality of his defence.

The Stars have added Kakande Shafiq and former URA talents John Alou Kokus and Steven Mpoza to their ranks this window.

Kato’s future has been uncertain following his departure from Rwanda’s Bugesera FC, favouring a move back to Uganda.

Pusle Sports understands that the defender was close to joining URA FC before the move fell through in its advanced stages.

Not only did he begin training with the Tax Collectors, but he even played in the club’s friendly against Jinja North, resulting in a staggering 5-1 victory on August 4.

However, the winds of fate blew in a different direction when the club ceased his training amid speculations of a failed agreement over personal terms.

Reports indicate that he was then offered to Villa, with whom he had trained with before focusing on the URA move.

However, a move was not on the cards as Villa under new coach Dusan Stojanovic had focused their efforts on other targets, and had since signed defender Cyrus Kibande.

Kato remains a respected player owing to his previous time at KCCA FC as he brokethrough from the club’s youth side before leaving in 2021.

He enjoyed success with the Kasasiro Boys, winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup with the club in 2019, in his first season with the Kasasiro Boys.
